2018 Sons of Eden Marschall Shiraz
Sons of Eden have been at the forefront of a new wave of Barossa winemakers revitalising the regions wine styles. Whilst some have some have pushed the barrier a little too far, overshooting the mark in their pursuit of elegance and freshness at the sacrifice of Barossa’s trademark richness, these boys regularly hit the bullseye. Right through their range of reds they manage to combine Barossa’s famed rich fruit with supple textures, a delicious savouriness and fresh feel, never losing sight of what Barossa does best – produce rich opulent full bodied reds.
A modern styled Barossa Shiraz that hits the bullseye.
Sourced from vines aged between 26-61 years old the resultant wine was matured in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads for 14 months. Impenetrable pitch black heart with a very deep dark purple black hue. Powerful dark plum, blackberry, blueberry and liquorice aromas waft their way through the nostrils with vanillin cedar, light earth, fennel and subtle pepper notes ensuing. Rich and mouthfilling yet graceful and fresh, the palate is decorated with dark plum, blackberry and liquorice fruits which have a fleshy opulent feel. Vanillin cedar, earthy fennel and pepper elements sit beneath. Providing a great framework for the fruit are velvety yet well structured tannins and finely tuned fresh acidity. Excellent length, purity and concentration with a long satisfying finish.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews.....
An unashamed full-bodied shiraz that has perfect balance, a rare beast indeed. Blackberry, satsuma plum and polished cherries have unseen tannins and oak embedded in their core. This really is an exceptional wine, the one criticism the extensive print on the label remaining unreadable even with a magnifying glass with an inbuilt torch.
