2018 Sons of Eden Romulus Shiraz
Sons of Eden is a partnership between winemaker Corey Ryan and viticulturist Simon Cowham who both learnt their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley. Their labels Romulus and Remus come from the fable of the legendary founders of Ancient Rome. These twins were abandoned at birth and reared by a she-wolf. Romulus murdered his twin Remus in a fit of rage over the naming of Rome, the city which both had built. Legend presents Romulus (Barossa Valley) as the stronger, more powerful of the brothers, while Remus (Eden Valley) was more refined, focussed and elegant.
From the exceptional 2018 vintage this superb Shiraz carries Barossa Valleys hallmark rich fruit and opulence with aplomb.
Sourced from 60-80 plus year old very low yielding vines Romulus was matured in a combination of new (50%) and seasoned French oak hogsheads for 18 months.
Magnificent colour saturation featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and a very deep dark red black hue. Soaring out of the glass with tremendous potency are blackberry, dark plum and liquorice scents. Notions of dark chocolate, vanillin oak, subtle earthy mocha and spice add complexity. Exceptionally deep and concentrated with a super plush feel, the full bodied palate is soaked with cascading waves of rich dark plum, blackberry and liquorice fruits. Lightly toasted vanillin oak, mocha, earthy fennel and spice characters ensue. Silky smooth tannins have a cashmere like feel and are seamlessly integrated. Outstanding length finishing with an absolute power house of flavour and Barossa’s hallmark opulence. Trophy Winner Best Shiraz 2018 & Older – Winewise Small Vigneron Awards 2021

Classic Barossa Shiraz on the nose: mint and eucalyptus alongside sweet dark fruit, engine oil and smoky bacon. Very complex with an overlay of quality oak, the supple tannins in immaculate balance, the length astonishing. Utterly superb!

Abundant sweet spice and red fruit, as well as licorice and tar. There’s impressive density here with deep blackberry and chocolate flavors and bold, smooth tannins. Some convincing density and length. Drink or hold.
