2018 Syrahmi La La Shiraz
The name Syrahmi combines "Syrah," the French word for Shiraz, and "Ami," meaning friend, symbolizing a "friendly Shiraz". Founded in 2004 by former chef Adam Foster, Syrahmi began with a small batch of fruit from Heathcote. Each year, fruit is carefully sourced from different vineyards in the Heathcote region, with the wines named uniquely to reflect each vintage.
Inspired by Guigal’s iconic La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, Syrahmi La La is crafted as a single-vineyard Heathcote Shiraz aged in 100% new oak for at least 36 months. The eighth release, from the outstanding 2018 vintage, was produced in tiny volumes, using fruit handpicked from the Greenstone Vineyard, known for its ancient Pre-Cambrian soils. Fermented with 100% whole bunches and wild yeasts, the wine aged for 50 months in a 600L Stockinger barrel—the longest yet—before bottling in August 2022. Released only in exceptional vintages, the 2018 Syrahmi La La is ready to be enjoyed after 6.5 years of maturation.

Other Reviews....
It's a dense wine, it displays a significant volume of both fruit and oak, and it churns with tannin from the mid-point of the wine onwards. It's a svelte, smoky, complex version of the take-no-prisoners style. And yet, even though it is all that, it's a good deal more as well, thanks mostly to the wonderful length of its flavour but also to the wine's rare blend of kaleidoscopic flavour and all-around control. Drink 2025 - 2035.
