2018 Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Prephylloxera Calderara Sottana Etna Rosso

The single vineyard Calderara Sottana is produced from old vines planted on the pure Ellittico lava flow terroir. Within this vineyard are two parcels planted on their own rootstocks which are over 130 years old. This Prephylloxera bottling displays a similar style of complex flavours to the younger vine Calderara Sottana wine, with a greater level of elegance and finesse, often needing a decant or additional cellaring time.

The purity and intensity of fruit is really something here with cherries, perfectly ripe strawberries, flowers and stones and some sandalwood. It’s medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and a beautiful, long finish. This ancient-vine wine is glorious.

This medium-bodied red entices with a rich, minerally nose, while the palate is silky in texture, offering a panoply of finely knit flavors, including plumped cherry, spiced orange, baked fig and marjoram.
