2018 Tyrrell's 8 Acres Shiraz

Hunter Valley, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA
$140. 00
Bottle
$1680.00 Dozen
ABV: 14%

Part of Tyrrell's Sacred Sites wines, which are made only from vines that are more than 100 years old and on their own roots. The 8 Acres vineyard was planted in 1892 and sits just below the 4 Acres vineyard in the driveway up the winery. Vine orientation is north / south which is the opposite to 4 Acres which runs east / west and produces a different style of wine altogether. The inaugural release from this ancient block, from the stellar 2018 vintage.

Other Reviews….
A new wine from Tyrrell’s from vines planted in 1892. I dropped a bottle of 4A and Old Patch to squeeze a couple of these into my standing order. Tasting from cask about three weeks ago, and I note that while 4A looks a little better bottled, both this and the Old Patch seem to have been knocked about a little more.
Juicy purple smelling wine, but also with ripe blue fruit, a slight earthiness, and a distinctly come-hither style – the 8 Acres is bringing sexy back. Supple, creamy flavour and ripe round tannin, a delicious perfume, and a smooth long finish, with just a hint of iodine. Will be a knock-out with careful cellaring. Drink 2022 - 2040+
