2019 Angove Family Crest Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre

A blend of 50% Grenache, 26% Shiraz and 24% Mourvedre. The Grenache component is sourced from old vines growing in the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs, whilst the Shiraz comes from the exposed slate and quartz slopes high in the windswept Sellicks Hills and Mourvèdre from the loam soils of the more protected Sellicks Foothills to the south. The perfume of Blewitt Springs fruit contrasts and combines with the spice and pepper of the southerly Sellicks vineyards. Each variety was picked separately with aging taking place in large older French oak vats, puncheons and hogsheads for a period 20 months.

A rich molten of opulent black fruits

Deep dark red black in colour with a dark red hue. Pronounced aromas of black raspberry and liquorice fill the nostrils with notions of vanillin oak, scorched earth and pepper also chiming in. Rich, fleshy and full in body, the palate is layered with succulent black raspberry, black cherry and liquorice fruits. Excellent concentration and power with nicely integrated vanillin oak, scorched earth and spice elements flowing onto the back half. Medium to fine grained tannins unfold into a long velvety textured and amply endowed aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
