2019 Angove Family Crest Shiraz
To promote complexity, fruit for this wine was sourced from a wide selection of vineyards across the McLaren vale region, from Blewitt Springs and Seaview in the North through Willunga and on to Sellicks Hill in the South, all with varying vine age and soil types. Maturation took place in a mixture of new and aged French oak puncheons and hogsheads for a period of 12-14 months.
Dense black as night heart with a deep black dark red hue. Elevated scents of liquorice meld into blackberry, smoky vanillin cedar, faint graphite, fennel and blackpepper notes. Rich liquorice, dark plum and blackberry fruits carry plenty of weight across the full bodied, opulently textured palate. Notions of scorched earth, vanillin cedar, fennel and blackpepper lie underneath a velvety yet structured matrix of tannins, complimented by juicy acidity which lends freshness. Lengthy pepper laced finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
You'd never guess Angove is a recent arrival in McLaren Vale. This is a near-perfect illustration of varietal character with eiderdown tannins underlaying a Magimix blend of dark chocolate and blood plum fruit. Generosity is its calling card, and it won't die any time soon. A multipurpose player with food. Drink by 2039.
