2019 Ceretto Barolo Rocche di Castiglione

The Ceretto family are pioneers in Piedmont, and much of their international renown has been built on their fastidious work in the vineyards, and their (at the time) revolutionary approach to promoting the concept of cru wines in the region. This idea of highlighting specific vineyards chosen for their enduring excellence was something Bruno and Marcello Ceretto learnt after visiting Burgundy in the 1960's. Applying this approach to Barolo and Barbaresco has further elevated these wines to now be counted amongst the most appreciated and prestigious wines in the world.

Now in its second vintage, the organic Ceretto 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is just phenomenal. The wine balances power, texture and bouquet with a pretty set of aromas that recall redcurrant, plump cherry, rusty nail and earthy iris root. Wines from Castiglione Falletto always have a very etched or focused quality, and I think you will discover that here. Drink 2025 - 2048.

The 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is all class. It emerges from a small sliver of land in Rocche di Castiglione proper, which is just below the Ceretto family's Bricco Rocche property. Elegant and nuanced, the 2019 is a gorgeous, aromatic Barolo that captures all the finesse of this site. Silky tannins give this weightless, intense Barolo tons of sheer appeal, even in the early going. Drink 2029-2044.

Red cherries with dried flowers and fresh leather on the nose. Hints of smoke. Full to medium body. Firm and chewy tannins. Needs time to soften. Better after 2025.
