2019 Domaine Charles Audoin Bourgogne Rouge
Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.
Dark red in colour with black tinged edges and a bright dark red hue. The nose emits fragrant red fruited scents of cherry and strawberry with a whiff of sour cherry thrown in for good measure. Adding further interest are violet, earthy cedar and fresh herb notes. Light in body but quite supple in its feel, the palate has a slightly darker profile than the nose featuring red to dark cherry and winter strawberry fruits over subtle earth, infusions of fresh herbs and spicy cedar. Finishes with great poise, ample freshness, velvet like tannins and a delicious red to dark fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

Hard to believe that this stunningly fresh and lively wine is only a Bourgogne rouge, because it offers not only effusive blackberries, but also fine tannins and a long, silky finish. 100% from Marsannay village sites.

A very pretty essence of red berry fruit nose exhibits added breadth in the form or violet and earth nuances. The rich, even caressing, middle weight flavors are borderline opulent before concluding in a bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. This is potentially a fine Bourgogne that should drink well early. Drink 2022+.
