Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.

Other Reviews....
Plenty of black and red cherries here, with the earthiness of this appellation present in more discreet form than is often the case. Lovely balance of medium to full body, polished tannins and enough acidity to keep it lively.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is also showing nicely, mingling aromas of peonies, rose petals, orange rind, cassis, cherries and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, it has an enveloping core of succulent fruit underpinned by melting tannins. Long and penetrating, this charming wine is the finest young Gevrey I've tasted from Audoin.

A restrained nose features notes of a variety of red berries cut with cool earth and pretty spice nuances. The very round, indeed, almost suave medium-bodied flavors also conclude in a youthfully austere finish that offers just a bit more overall depth and sneaky good persistence. Note that while this well-made effort will age, it should also drink well young. Drink 2026+.
