2019 Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay Les Longeroies
Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.
Les Longeroies is a relatively large vineyard located in the north of the Marsannay sector on the border with Chenove. The upper part of the vineyard has large amounts of limestone just below the surface, while the lower section has more red marl. Les Longeroies is one of the prime candidates to be promoted to premier cru status, and the wines from here are incredibly refined, yet also serious and well structured.
A dark red core shows good depth with black shaded edges and a dark red hue. Perfumed like aromatics captivate the olfactory senses with violet, red to dark cherry, red currant and strawberry scents followed by spicy vanillin cedar, fresh herbs and forest floor. Rich yet light to medium weight and supple across the palate, a power wave of moreish dark cherry, strawberry and ripe red currant fruits flood the mouth. Also chiming in are subtle forest floor, spicy cedar and traces of fresh herbs. Combines freshness, intensity and an impeccably fine grained tannin structure with a long savoury conclusion.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Deep and complex nose with a wide spectrum of summer-flower aromas. The concentration on the medium-bodied palate is very impressive, but it’s the incredible finesse that makes this really stand out. Very long finish with subtle, spicy notes.

Soaring from the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums, rose petals, violets and spices, the 2019 Marsannay Les Longeroies is medium to full-bodied, layered and perfumed, with lively acids, velvety tannins and a long, perfumed finish. This is one of the most sensual, elegant renditions of Les Longeroies that I've tasted from Audoin.

Touches of herbal tea, earth, the sauvage and a hint of spice add very nice range to the cool aromas of red cherry, red currant and discreet floral wisps. The rich, vibrant and well-detailed flavors possess excellent depth and even better persistence on the firmly structured finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. Drink 2027+.
