2019 Feudo Montoni Nero d’Avola Lagnusa
The fruit for this wine is sourced from the lower part of Montoni’s vineyards – still high, particularly for Nero, at 600 metres and with a higher portion of clay than the rows at the top of the hill. Lagnusa means lazy – a reference to this vineyard naturally producing little fruit but what it does produce is of exceptionally high quality. Fermentation and ageing occur in cement, with the later stages in old, large oak.
Dark red in colour with black shaded edges and a bright red purple hue. Lifted ripe red cherry, red plum and red liquorice scents drift from the glass trailed by subtle incense, earth and wild herb notes. Light in body with a fresh, juicy feel the palate is decorated with red plum and red liquorice fruits which meld into infusions of incense, wild herbs, volcanic rock and earthy minerals. Vibrant finish with polished tannins and a delicious red fruited aftertaste that’s bouncing with energy.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews….
Sweet violets and rose come together with crushed blackberries and a spritz of tangerine to form an inviting bouquet as the 2019 Nero d'Avola Lagnusa opens in the glass. It’s silky-smooth and round, the ripe black fruits and confectionary spices creating a seductive display. Brisk acids and minerals build tension through the finale, making pleasant punctuation to such an extroverted yet balanced expression. Drink 2021-2026.
