2019 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a deep dark red hue. Elevated blackcurrant and dark cherry aromas mix with hints of dark chocolate, earth and spicy cedar. Medium bodied, layers of ripe blackcurrant and dark cherry fruits show plenty of generosity with elements of earth, dusty cedar, tobacco and spice lying underneath. Sturdy yet well integrated tannins provide ample structure. Concludes with a richly fruited medium to long aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

The entry-level 2019 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is mostly Merlot that is blended with Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. As the text on the back label suggests, the wine aims for a so-called Mediterranean flavor profile that presents the cherry softness of the Merlot against the spice of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the bramble or blue flowers of the Sangiovese. This wine also shows a specifically Italian side, thanks to that food-friendly freshness. I'm thinking pasta with a hearty meat ragù. This vintage is thinner and shorter than I would like to see, but the results are versatile and accessible nonetheless. Drink 2021 - 2025.

Monica Larner - Wine Advocate (May 2021)
The 2019 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is terrific. Bold, juicy and wonderfully expressive, the 2019 will drink well right out of the gate. Juicy black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and chocolate are all kicked up a few notches. In 2019 Le Volte is especially dark and sumptuous, both of which add to its considerable immediacy and overall appeal. This is an especially fine vintage for the Ornellaia's entry-level bottling. Drink 2023 - 2024.

This is very Mediterranean in character with sage and rosemary to the blackberry and tar aromas. It’s medium-to full-bodied with medium, chewy tannins and a savory finish. Black-pepper undertones with cloves. Drink now.
