2019 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Shiraz
A blend of 98% Shiraz and 2% Malbec with 20% of the fruit fermented as whole bunches. Maturation took place in French oak ranging from new to 2 year old barrels for a period of 18 months.
Dense inky black heart with a deep bright purple red hue. Sailing out of the glass are blackberry and liquorice scents which meld into fleshy plum, vanillin cedar, earthy graphite and peppered dried meat notes. Rich blackberry and liquorice fruits carry an opulent feel with vanillin oak, graphite, dried meat and peppered earth elements adding complexity on the back half. Polished yet well constructed tannin framework with good freshness and a long savoury dark fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews…..
If you've ever watched mercury being poured, you'll understand what I mean when I say that the tannins have a seamless liquidity about them. They shape the fruit and allow it passage over the tongue and into the sunset of its finish. A serious step up in quality and texture from the Siblings Shiraz. The layers of flavour seem never-ending. This wine ages gracefully over the medium term, although my preference is for drinking it within 2–4 years, as I love the vibrancy, detail and poise of it as a young wine. Choose your own adventure. Drink by 2031.
