2019 Mount Pleasant Old Paddock & Old Hill Shiraz
From some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, this superb rendition of Hunter Valley Shiraz marries power with refinement. Maturation takes place in a mixture of small and large format French oak (approximately 25% new) for a period of 12 months.
Classic Old Vine Hunter Valley Shiraz at its glorious best.
Very deep dark red black colour with a dark red hue. Both highly fragrant and complex the nose offers up charming aromatics of spicy plum, liquorice and dark cherry over smoky vanillin cedar, earth, clove and blackpepper. The delicious medium bodied palate is layered with spicy dark plum, liquorice and dark cherry fruits which sit over a back drop of blueberry, scorched earth, vanillin cedar, clove, peppered dried meats and a faint touch of leather. Sturdy yet fine grained tannin structure. Possessing superb depth and undeniable yet understated power it concludes long and supremely refined.
Drink over the next 10-12 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews….
This very old-vine blend of two parcels is a classic of Hunter Valley elegance and power. The aromas of such pure red plums and berries are deeply intense and have a spicy thread, as well as some earthy tones. The palate has impressive depth and richness of darker-toned berries and delivers unwaveringly long, deeply powerful style. This still holds medium-bodied yet packs so much concentration. Drink over the next decade. Screw cap.

…..a hotter year in 2019, and the afternoon shade from the hillside blocks helped things along. Remember now, there will be no 2020 vintage wines released from Mount Pleasant.
Perfume, boysenberry, raspberry, earth, baking spice, some salted liquorice. Medium-bodied, deep chewy tannin, excellent balance, depth and weight, long finish. For a full-flavoured wine, this really pops. A standout release from 2019. Drink 2022-2035+
