2019 Giuseppe Quintarelli Primofiore
Giuseppe Quintarelli was known as ‘the Master of the Veneto’, and is the name behind one of the most renowned estates in Italy. Sadly, Giuseppe passed away in early 2012 and he leaves behind a legacy of producing remarkable wines with an outstanding philosophy, to his eldest daughter who continues to carry on the tradition of this great estate. With their easily recognisable hand scripted labels, these wines offer at glimpse into one of the world’s most faithful artisanal winemakers who was an ultimate believer in letting nature do her thing and in order for wines to reach their ultimate potential these wines were only released when he deemed them to be ready.
Translated to “first flower”, Primofiore is the youngest of the wines of Quintarelli released each year. The mix here is Corvione, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc where most of the grapes are directly pressed except for the Cabernet which undergoes air drying for around five weeks. A hallmark of Primofiore is its freshness and vibrant nature, and this highly aromatic wine is the perfect introduction to the charms of Quintarelli.

The traditional blending formula for this wine sees indigenous grapes (Corvina and Corvinone) face off with French grapes (Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc) in equal parts. The Quintarelli Giuseppe 2019 Primofiore is a terrific entry-level option from a vintage that promises extra fruit weight and richness. The wine opens to dark fruit aromas, with dried blackberry and plum. These various varietal components taste ripe, supple and accessible. The wine comes together with easy balance. Drink 2021 - 2027.

Monica Larner - Wine Advocate (Dec 2021)
Like a freshly opened jar of raspberry preserves complemented by spiced citrus, cloves and minty herbs, the 2019 Primofiore blossoms in the glass. This soothes with its silky textures that coat the palate in mineral-tinged red berries and spices. It seems almost weighty at times, yet the lift of acidity is perfectly inserted. This tapers off amazingly long with rosy inner florals, hints of pepper and autumnal spices, yet is only lightly structured. The 2019 is full of balanced pleasure. This was tasted from both a fresh bottle and a bottle opened three days earlier. In my opinion, Primofiore is the hidden gem of the Quintarelli portfolio. Drink 2022-2028.
