2019 San Felice Il Grigio Chianti Classico Riserva

Produced from mainly Sangiovese, only the finest grapes are selected for the San Felice Il Grigio Riserva. Predominately matured for 24 months in 60 or 90 hl in Slavonian oak casks with the balance (20%) in 225-litre French barriques. Deep dark red black tinged colour with a dark red hue. Expressive spicy red currant aromas mix with hints of tobacco, earth, dried herbs and a faint whiff of leather. Mid weighted and carrying a refined feel, savoury red currant and red cherry fruits are underpinned by bright acidity and a robust tannin structure which lends some subtle grip. Dusty earth, spicy cedar, tobacco and dried herb characters sit in the background. Finishes slightly dryish with a classic rustic earthy quality.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Fairly complex, but still bright, with spiced red plums and cherries, bark, leather and a hint of mushroom savoriness. Quite integrated and silky with a medium to full body, rounded by firm but velvety tannins. Long, yet subtle and fruit-expressive. Already delicious now, but you should hold this for two years and wait for additional complexity to emerge.
