2019 West Cape Howe Book Ends Cabernet Sauvignon
Produced from West Cape Howe’s best blocks, the Book Ends is matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (30% new). Two percent Malbec was included in the blend.
Midnight black at its heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Heady ripe blackcurrant aromas fill the nostrils with some ripe mulberry, vanillin cedar, tobacco, dried herb and hints of spicy black olive ensuing. Rich and generously proportioned, the palate is engulfed with mouth filling ripe blackcurrant and mulberry fruits which are complimented by liquorice, spicy vanillin cedar, tobacco, dried herb and earthy black olive elements. Excellent concentration, volume and depth with a sturdy yet polished tannin structure. Concludes long, ripe and spicy.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews…..
West Cape Howe's 100ha Langton vineyard has some of the oldest cabernet plantings in Western Australia. 2019 was a difficult vintage, but the best blocks went to this wine, which has now developed lovely cedary characters, part fruit, part oak, and a long future ahead. Drink by 2038.
