2019 Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz
Totally opaque black dark purple colour with a bright dark purple hue. Perfumed like aromatics of red plum, blueberry, violets and red liquorice blossom from the glass followed by subtle incense like notes, fresh herbs, faint vanillin cedar and pepper. Mid weight and refined yet juicy the palate features a mix of delicious red and blue fruits that include red plum, blueberry and liquorice. A velvety mouthfeel complimented by a cool climate freshness with some delicate earthy incense, light vanillin clove and spicy pepper characters in the background. Perfectly integrated tannins show great polish with a long finessed aftertaste.
Drink over the next 8-10 years.
Alc. 13.5%
Other Reviews....
Fruit from a single block of shiraz planted in 1973, 80/20% whole berries/bunches fermented in a 3500L new oak foudre. Half was then matured for a year in the same foudre, the remainder into used French oak puncheons. There's so much restraint and purity of fruit across the YY range this vintage, Underhill is no different. Perfumed, savoury, delicate yet complex, pure and long. Lacy tannins and fine acidity work across a lithe palate. Drink by 2033.

Jane Faulkner - James Halliday's Wine Companion (January 2021)
Fresh and lively, this offers aromas of red and dark berries, as well as plums. Some spicy elements are threaded in nicely, too. Supple and smoothly rounded, yet very linear, this has terrific focus on the palate. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
