AA Badenhorst Family wines are owned and run by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst who take their inspiration from the old, long-forgotten Cape Blends that were around before the advent of modern winemaking. The fruit for this delicious blend is sourced from old bush vines planted in the 1950’s and 1960’s which are grown without irrigation on various types of granite soil, along with fruit purchased from other selected sites. Fermentation is 100% whole bunch in large concrete tanks and wooden vats, with post-ferment maceration continuing for up to 4 months.
A blend of 42% Syrah, 36% Cinsault, 13% Grenache Noir, 6% Tinta Barocco and 3% Touriga Nacional matured in a mixture of barrels and large neutral foudres. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Enticing liquorice, dark plum, black cherry and dark raspberry scents show plentiful elevation through the olfactory senses complimented by some dusty earth and spice notes. Rich juicy blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and dark raspberry fruits are delivered with terrific concentration yet only carry medium body weight. Scorched earth, provincial herb and spice characters lie underneath. Possessing a very fleshy feel and polished tannins it concludes long and succulent.
Moreish drinking over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews....
A perfumed nose of plums, black cherries, violet and paprika. Medium- to full-bodied with lovely ripe red and black fruit. Very steady intensity and depth, with fruit soaked, granular tannins. Pleasantly fresh at the finish. Aged in concrete. Co-fermented on the skins. A blend of 42% shiraz, 36% cinsaut, 13% grenache noir, 6% tinta barocco and 3% touriga nacional. Best after 2024.

A blend of the red varieties from the organically-farmed farm.
Dark fruited, woody spices, walnut and licks of pepper and herb. It’s plush and lush, grooves of fine tannin keeping plummy fruit, more walnut characters, some fig and date character, all in check. Flavoursome, lovely, soft and generous. An opulent style with meat on its bones, but lift and carriage of flavour. Yes. Drink 2022 - 2028.
