2020 Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon

A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot matured in French oak (26% new) for a period of 15 months. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Elevated red to black currant and mulberry aromas are intermeshed with vanillin cedar, tobacco, dried herb, black olive and faint hints of spicy capsicum. Rich fleshy red to black currant and mulberry fruits overlay a cedary tobacco, dried herb, black olive and spice back drop. Nicely integrated, fine grained tannins provide the framework. Concludes long and refined.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Lots of positive changes are afoot at Cape Mentelle, and I've a feeling it’s regaining its crown in the region. Nothing broken, just fine-tuning. A glass of this and all’s well. Fragrant with mulberries, cassis, nori and baking spices, the medium-bodied palate is superfine and long with textural tannins adding to the pleasure. Drink by 2038.
