2020 Castellari Bergaglio Fornaci Gavi
Piedmont is best known for its red wines, but Gavi, located in southern Piedmont and bordering Liguria, is home to white wines that have long been favoured by the neighbouring port of Genoa to accompany the region’s seafood. Founded in 1890, Castellari Bergaglio is a family-run winery that Gambero Rosso hails as “one of the appellation’s principal reference points.” Bright pale straw colour with a subtle tinge of green to the edges and a watery hue. Lifted fresh pear, lime and red apple scents delicately infused with fresh herbs meld into some wet slate and mineral notes. Racy lime, green apple and pear fruits are underscored by a wet slate back drop. Dry crisp, saline like finish with a lingering stony mineral character to the aftertaste.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
