2020 Chateau Haut-Bergeron Sauternes (375ml) - DAMAGED LABEL
Many experts consider Chateau Haut Bergeron to be the best of the non classified Sauternes. Part of the secret of the success of Robert Lamothes and his sons Patrick and Herue is the terroir. The 28 hectare vineyard is split on such a way, that part of the vines are in Barsac, (next to Chateau Climens), part are at Preignac and a large slice next to Chateau d’Yquem. At one stage the label used to boast this fact, with the words 'CONTIGU d’YQUEM'. Son, Herue is a dedicated and passionate winemaker who ages wine in 25% to 50% new oak casks. The exact percentage depends upon the vintage conditions. The 2020 vintage comes replete with special packaging to celebrate 200 years of the Lamothe family being vignerons.
Brilliant pale gold core with golden tinged edges. Potent honey drenched ripe peach and apricot aromas mix with marmalade, dried pineapple and spice notes. Rich and lusciously textured, the palate features honeyed peach and apricot flavours alongside sweet ripe pineapple, marmalade and candied citrus characters. Outstanding power and depth finishing very long with ample freshness and mouth feel.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Pale gold in color, the 2020 Haut-Bergeron has a seductive nose of honey-drizzled peaches, baked pineapple and candied ginger, plus hints of coriander seed and candle wax. The palate delivers with tropical fruit and citrusy goods with a racy backbone and earthy accents, finishing with a compelling burst of freshness. Drink 2024-2040.

The 2020 Haut-Bergeron is a very pretty, alluring Sauternes. It offers up hints of orange marmalade, apricot, passionfruit and lightly burnt sugar, with no hard edges and fine balance. Drink 2023-2030.

The 2020 Haut-Bergeron, which incidentally comes with a special label to celebrate its bicentenary, has a very pure and perfumed nose with dried honey, white peach, saffron and Japanese yuzu. Impressive delineation. The palate is well-balanced with impactful concentration, pretty spicy with stem ginger and lemongrass. Very fine. Drink 2024-2040.
