Aromas of minty blackberries, cassis, bay leaf and licorice introduce the 2020 Rochebelle, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vibrant wine that's pure and precise, with a lively core of fruit, refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. It's another strong performance from this small estate on the edge of the Saint-Émilion plateau, sandwiched between Tertre Roteboeuf and La Mondotte. Drink 2025 - 2050.

Plum, tobacco, pine-needle and mushroom aromas with some wet earth. Full-bodied with juicy fruit and lots of creamy, round tannins that go on for minutes. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. Need five or six years to soften.

Coming from vines near Tertre Roteboeuf, the 2020 Château Rochebelle is a brilliant wine that's well worth seeking out. Dark fruits, truffle, chocolate, tobacco, and some smoky, barbecue-like nuances emerge from the glass, and it's medium to full-bodied, brings a wealthy of fruit and texture, and has ripe tannins as well as a great finish. This balanced, incredibly impressive Saint-Emilion is going to benefit from just a few years of bottle age and keep for 15+ if well stored. This is one of those hidden gems in a vintage that way over-delivers. Drink 2023 - 2038.
