2020 Ciavolich Fosso Cancelli Trebbiano d’Abruzzo
The grapes from the oldest vineyards on the property (1964) are harvested by hand in September, then de-stemmed and crushed. The must obtained is left for a day on skins, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts is started with the addition of a ‘pied de cuvee’ in terracotta amphorae and Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is kept on lees for 6–8 months in the same vessels before being blended and bottled to complete its evolution.
Bright straw colour with a watery hue. Pear, apple and subtle dried honey aromas emerge followed by some lime, delicate quince and wet stone notes. Vibrant pear, dried apple, lime and quince flavours overlay a stony mineral back drop. Finishes dry with crisp acidity and an elegant river stone like feel to the persistent conclusion.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
