2020 Clarence House Estate Pinot Noir
Clarence House Estate’s small vineyard is located just north of Hobart on a perfectly positioned north-east facing slope. The talented Anna Pooley from Pooley wines the contracted winemaker. 2020 was a classic Tasmanian vintage, a long, dry, cool growing season saw fruit picked at optimal physiological ripeness. The Estate blend comprises fruit from all three pinot blocks, utilizing five different clones with harvest occurring over two weeks. Wild fermented with a small portion of whole bunch (5%), the wine was aged in a combination of new (10%) and old French oak barriques and puncheons for a period of 10 months.
A delicious Tassie Pinot that’s light, lithe, energetic and powerful.
Semi translucent red to dark red colour with a bright purple red hue. Captivating the olfactory senses are enchanting aromatics of violet, cherry, strawberry and wild herbs that show a perfumed like intensity. Hints of incense, forest floor and spice also chime in to add further nuance. Charming the palate is a cascading wave of delicious ripe red cherry and strawberry fruits. Light in body but not lacking in power, it has a slippery feel with infusions of wild herbs, forest floor and subtle spicy cedar presenting themselves on the back half. Polished tannins with fresh acidity lending energy to a long-finessed conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
