2020 Domaine Andre Brunel Est-Ouest Cotes du Rhone
André Brunel's family first settled in Châteauneuf du Pape in the 18th century, today they own 22 hectares in Châteauneuf du Pape and 11 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône. Wines are produced from estate grown grapes as well as grapes from neighbouring growers where André manages the vineyards.
Exuberant and juicy this is a delicious Cotes du Rhone that shows loads of personality.
From the exceptional 2020 vintage this blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Cinsault and 10% Syrah was produced from 35 year old vines. Aging took place in concrete and stainless steel vats.
Deep dark red black tinged colour with a dark red hue. Seducing the olfactory senses are aromas of dark to black raspberries and liquorice followed by some ripe dark cherry, herb du Provence, subtle scorched earth and peppered meat notes. Awash with succulent black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits the moreish palate shows terrific intensity and drive. Lingering on the back half are scorched earth, infusions of herbs du Provence and pepper. Providing a good framework are ripe but slightly chewy tannins. Finishes long and seductive with lashings of black fruit. A standout Cotes du Rhone in the value for money stakes.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
