Other Reviews....
Here too the nose is overtly floral in character with its layered blend of red and dark raspberry, warm earth and discreet spice wisps. There is again very fine mid-palate density to the slightly bigger-bodied tension-filled flavors that flash evident muscle and power on the moderately austere, firmly structured and impressively long finish. Patience strongly advised. Drink from 2035+.

The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is superb, the latest in a series of remarkable iterations of this cuvée. Wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, rose hips, peonies, orange rind and warm spices, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with terrific concentration, velvety tannins and lively acids. Deep and complete, it will be long-lived.

The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, which has 50% whole bunch, shows quite a lot of stems on the nose, black pepper and clove plus brown spices infusing the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, lightly peppered with quite a refined finish not unlike the Chambertin. This constitutes one of the best reds from Bouchard Père this vintage. Drink 2026-2046.

Deep and complex nose that's full of spice and dry forest-floor character, the fruit aromas still a little embryonic. With some aeration in the glass, some floral notes develop. Concentrated and silky, the major structure underlying the richness already beautifully integrated. Just enough acidity to pull this off. Very long, rich finish. From a 0.24-hectare plot in the famous Grand Cru. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

At the moment the top of the Bouchard plot is not in production, so this is all from the terre rouge terroir. A rich imperial purple. The whole bunches come out on the nose but they prevent any inkiness settling in. This is beautifully orchestrated, nuanced, multi-textural, silky and then matt in alternation, very long, with a superb quality of dark red fruit.

The domaine-owned parcel of 0.26ha is on the Chambolle side in the middle. Only the two-thirds on terres rouges is in production, the balance of the vineyard has been replanted. The wine is made with 50% whole-cluster for a three-week cuvaison followed by ageing in 30% new wood. The result has a sweet blackberry and plum fruit with a distinctive aroma of violets and a lovely sweet quality on the palate. Supple and approachable but not lacking substance. Drink 2025 - 2050.
