Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.

Les Favieres is situated on the border of the Marsannay and Couchey sectors, and the vineyard has a very shallow top soil above the bedrock. It tends to produce wines that are very precise, structured, and built to age.

Other Reviews....
Not many 2020 Grand Cru red Burgundies match this! Like staring into a deep dark pool, except that the pool is full of forest berries and, with every swirl of the glass, you see deeper into it, yet never reach the bottom. Staggering concentration and finesse on the expansive palate, the graceful tannins driving the mind-blowingly intense, almost endless finish. Drink or hold.

A cool, restrained and beautifully layered nose combines notes of both red and dark raspberry with those of earth, floral and discreet spice wisps. The sleek, intense and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors also possess a beguiling texture on the sappy and youthfully austere but not rustic finale that exhibits excellent length. The Audoin Favières almost always ages well, and the 2020 version should be no exception. Drink to 2030+.
