2020 Domaine Clarendon Syrah

Dense inky black heart with a deep dark red black hue. Elevated liquorice and black cherry aromas are followed by some blackberry, toasty cedar and peppered dried meat scents. Bright black cherry and liquorice fruits are underpinned by relatively stern tannins. Some smoky vanillin cedar and peppered meat elements linger across the back half. Vibrant acidity with a dry grippy finish.

Clarendon sourced. Ferrous, full weighted and immensely floral. Awash with smoked meats, iodine, lilac, aniseed and purple fruit allusions. Kirsch, bursting through the core to give away the hot-climate origins. Yet this is classy, largely playing a cooler climatic card of tension with considerable aplomb, pepper and clove littering the forceful finish. Drink by 2028.
