2020 Domaine des Escaravailles Les Hautes Granges Roaix

Magnificent depth of colour featuring a pitch black heart and a very deep black dark red hue. Enticing blackpepper, black cherry and subtle liquorice aromas morph into graphite, smoked meats and spicy dried herb notes. Rich, refined and powerful, the palate is flooded with black cherry, liquorice, black raspberry and blackberry fruits. Notions of dried meats, provincial herbs, subtle scorched earth and blackpepper also chime in on the back half. Ample freshness with polished yet muscular tannins. The long, deeply fruited aftertaste carrying a sense of elegance.

Also terrific, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Roaix Les Hautes Granges checks in as 100% Syrah from the limestone soils of the Les Hautes Granges lieu-dit. It was destemmed and aged in 15% new barrels. Blackberries, ground pepper, violets, and a kiss of Northern Rhône gaminess all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a rich, layered mouthfeel, some background oak, and a great finish. It has another 7-8 years, probably a decade, of life ahead of it. Drink 2022-2032.
