2020 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru
Other Reviews....
Here the nose is compositionally similar to the Charmes but it's not quite as ripe and there is a touch more sauvage character in evidence. There is fine richness to the opulent, round and intense big-bodied flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the compact, powerful and mildly warm finale that is just a bit more obviously structured. This is very impressive though it too is going to require extended patience. Drink from 2037+.

The 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has a vivacious nose - according to Romain Taupenot it was much more closed the previous week. Hints of brown spice infused the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, taut and fresh with veins of orange zest and white pepper on the finish. Great length, but this is quite strict and therefore cellaring is recommended. Drink 2027-2050.

The soil here is mostly alluvial, though full of large stones from the hard Premeaux and Comblanchien limestone, unlike their Charmes which is on crinoidal limestone with less topsoil. Nearly as deep a colour as its neighbour, with a little more depth of fruit to the nose. Bright succulent fruit, very lifted at the finish, I really thought there were whole bunches. Beautiful finish. Bravo.
