2020 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru
Among the various vineyards owned by Dubreuil-Fontaine, it's the parcels in the famed Corton grand cru that are cherished most. In addition to their 0.7ha of Chardonnay planted in En Charlemagne, their Pinot Noir is planted in the prime lieu-dits of Clos du Roi at the top of the Corton hill, to its south-east in les Bressandes, and to the south in les Perrières. Clos du Roi is perhaps the most complete of the trio, with glorious weight of fruit married to significant structure. Bressandes meanwhile is for many their favourite, a giving and generous expression yet it retains sufficient character to differentiate itself in the range. Lastly les Perrières has a more free-draining, stony soil tending to a finer expression of Corton, though as with all of these wines it can be very long lived.
Other Reviews....
This is firmly reduced and tough to evaluate aromatically. More interesting are the refined, delicious and very punchy medium-bodied flavors that are also firmly structured on the youthfully austere, complex and lingering finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. Drink through 2032+.

The 2020 Corton Clos-du-Roi Grand Cru has the most transparency on the nose between the Domaine’s three Corton Rouges, very well defined with real mineralité flooding through. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, plenty of brambly red fruit, natural and easygoing in style, though that belies the considerable persistency on the finish. Excellent. Drink 2025-2045.

The first to be picked on 20th August, 14%, not racked yet. Dense dark purple with a crimson edge. The bouquet is on the wilder side as not racked, but without fault. Slight drying notes at the finish and a ripeness to the fruit but also a svelte weight which will stand the wine in good stead. I am sure that this will clean up very nicely.
