2020 John Duval Wines Plexus Shiraz Grenache Mourvedre

A blend of 49% Shiraz, 35% Grenache and 16% Mourvedre aged for 15 months in French oak of which 15% was new. The Shiraz component was sourced from old vineyards at Krondorf and Tanunda. Grenache was sourced from vineyards at Moppa, Greenock, Tanunda and Ebenezer, and Mourvèdre from Light Pass and Ebenezer. For a second year in a row dry conditions meant that yields were well down, however, a cooler February and March provided a long and even ripening period which delivered very high quality fruit resulting in wines of great purity and depth.
Dense inky black in colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Alluring dark plum, liquorice and dark raspberry scents sail out of the glass trailed by vanillin oak, subtle earth and spice notes. Rich dark plum, liquorice and dark raspberry fruits flood the mouth with opulence. Subtle vanillin cedar, spicy earth and pepper elements lie underneath. Velvety yet sturdily built tannin structure. Excellent power concluding long, spicy and plush.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
