Matured for 9 months in a combination of American, French and eastern European oak barrels. Magnificent super saturated inky black colour with a very deep black dark red hue. Heady liquorice, black cherry and dark plum aromas rise out of the glass followed by some smoky cedar, fennel and peppered earth notes. Rich blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits have a soft opulent feel. A sturdy tannin structure firms up the back half with some fennel, light scorched earth and blackpepper characters also chiming in. Lively acidity with a mid length conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
While the hand is very traditional here, drawing on US, French and Eastern European barrels and an ancient basket press, for example, the style is implacable. In the best sense. Old-school, one could say. But I would retort that when the wines are this consistently delicious and nourishing, why change? This is the address to visit when seeking full flavour delivered in an intuitive fashion, founded on rich red- and dark-fruit accents, florals, liqueur bon-bon and a sumptuous kit of finely extracted grape tannins and (for the most part) reasonably well-applied oak. Delicious drinking. Drink by 2035.

This 2020 Basket Pressed Shiraz shows the concentration and vitality that the warm 2020 brought with it. Despite all the plump, voluminous fruit generosity, this is possessed of a savory line of tannin through the palate, stitched together by briny acidity. Solid and good. Drink 2022-2032.
