Matured in predominately French oak barriques (approximately 15% new) for a period of 12 months. Dense black as night heart with a deep dark red black hue. Elevated liquorice, black cherry and dark plum scents are complimented by smoky vanillin cedar, fennel and peppered herb like notes. Rich black cherry, liquorice and dark plum fruits infused with smoky oak and blackpepper fill the mouth. Some spicy fennel and black olive like characters linger on the finish. Opulent yet meaty like mouthfeel with a sturdy tannin structure lending grip to the long spicy dried herb and blackpepper laced aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.8%

Other Reviews....
A beacon in a difficult vintage. Progeny retains its well-known vibrancy and immediate drinking appeal. Deep, dense purple hues introduce lifted aromas of blackberry, briar, earth and violet. The winemaker believes that although there is less than 2% viognier, it makes its presence felt. I believe him. There is an aromatic appeal to this wine where the fruit is allowed free rein, with just a nod to French oak (20% new). The result is a wine of flavour and depth. Drink by 2030.
