2020 Seabrook The Merchant Shiraz
The Seabrook family have a long history in the Australian wine industry, dating back to 1878 when William Seabrook established one of Australia’s earliest wine merchants, W.J. Seabrook & Son. Today, fifth generation member Hamish Seabrook carries on the tradition. After graduating from Adelaide University with a bachelor of Oenology, Hamish went on to work and make wine for Best’s Great Western where industry legend Viv Thomson took him under his wing. After several other senior winemaking roles, Hamish went on to establish his own brand continuing the families long involvement in the wine industry.
Awash with lavish fruit, this a classic example of rich, voluptuous Barossa Shiraz.
The fruit for this wine was sourced from Seabrook’s Home Block vineyard located on the eastern ridge of Barossa Valley. The rows are orientated north south and the vineyard captures most of the afternoon sun, this coupled with the aspect, allow perfect conditions for early ripening. Matured for 24 months in barrel.
Fantastic colour featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and an equally deep black dark red hue. Heady aromatics of liquorice, dark plum, blackberry and choc mint waft out of the glass followed by vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice notes. Rich and voluptuous the full bodied palate is awash with lavish dark plum, liquorice and blackberry fruits which sit over a back drop of vanillin cedar, scorched earth, subtle spicy mocha and pepper elements. Velvety yet sturdy tannin structure concluding long polished and opulently fruited.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
