2020 Tonic Shiraz
Dense pitch black in colour with a deep dark red black hue. Intense blackberry and liquorice aromas mix with dark plum, a faint whiff of ripe blueberry, vanilla and spicy fennel. Medium to full in body the palate is amply endowed with rich blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate orange flavours which have a velvety feel. Fresh blueberry, vanilla and spicy earth characters lie underneath. Finishes with plenty of freshness, finely grained yet slightly firmish tannins with a bright, refined and earthy aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.8%
Other Reviews….
Western Barossa Shiraz, with no oak.
Perfume of lavender and violet over black fruit, sooty and earthy, with sweet spices. It’s medium to full-bodied, fleshy and silty with Turkish coffee tannin, a blackberry pip freshness, but still deep and rolling, perhaps a little cocoa too, with some orange peel and amaro on a long chewy finish. Terrific expression of Barossa Shiraz. Unadorned and with a little umami/shitake mushroom savoury thing happening, or maybe it’s porcini, though I prefer to use the first four letters of the other mushroom in this review. Drink 2021-2025+
