2020 Turkey Flat Vineyards Shiraz

Midnight black heart with a dark red black tinged hue. Fragrant dark plum, liquorice and clove scents intermingle with hints of blueberry, vanillin cedar, dark chocolate and peppered earth notes. Rich velvety dark plum, liquorice and dark chocolate flavours are backed by a sturdy tannin structure which lends a muscular feel to the back half. Spicy vanillin cedar, scorched earth and peppery dried clove like infusions also chime in. Deeply fruited yet robust and firm it finishes with ample length.

The so-so 2020 vintage had its problems, but the ancient (1847 planted) vines provided the backbone of this ultra-elegant, medium-bodied, French-oaked shiraz. Its perfect texture and balance nullify the vintage challenge. Drink by 2045
