2020 Xanadu Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Elegant but powerful this mimics the great wines of Bordeaux.
Xanadu’s Reserve range of wines represent the very best that the estate is capable of producing in a given vintage. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot with maturation taking place in French oak (40% new) for a period of 14 months.
Exceptionally deep in colour it features a pitch black heart and deep dark red black tinged hue. The highly sophisticated and intensely perfumed nose features a classy aromatic profile of red to black currants, violets and mulberry intermeshed with some dusty cedar, tobacco, subtle black olive and bay leaf notes. Rich and concentrated yet possessing Bordeaux like refinement the palate is embellished with delicious red to black currant and mulberry fruits. Traces of red liquorice, vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco characters and delicate infusions of bay leaf play a supporting role. Beautifully framed with a fine grained tannin structure it has an expansive feel across the palate. Finishes very long and aristocratic.
Drink over the next 10-15 years.

Other Reviews….
What’s the point of writing anything about this wine? Really. But you’ve come this far so I’ll add the reason: It’s complete, exceptional and beguiling. The best Margaret River cabernet exemplifies those alluring characters. OK, you want to know more. It’s heady with mulberries, cassis and damson plum, wakame and squid ink. Medium bodied, plush and velvety across the palate thanks to sublime tannins with an outrageously long finish. This is irresistible. Drink by 2048.

There have been some wonderful 2020 cabernets from Margaret River but none better than this. What a glorious statement of the region and a great vintage. Highly perfumed aromas of mulberry, dark chocolate and blackcurrant with a little plum and dried herb edging in. The palate is full-bodied with immense power. Black fruit, dark plum and some wild berry action with oak that has been almost lyrically laid. Bright and vital with a lithe expressiveness that is pure joy. Cellar 20 years.
