2020 Yeringberg Cabernets
Other Reviews....
A blend of 61/10/10/10/9% cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc//merlot/petit verdot/malbec from vines planted at this historic winery from 1969-2000. Matured 19 months in French barrique (39% new). A medium and bright ruby red. Even in a cooler year, this always great wine delivers the goods. Aromas of subtle cranberry, blackberries and brambly blackberry leaf, together with a little clove and fresh vanilla bean from the well-handled oak. Medium bodied and beautifully poised, this has fine, elegant tannins contributing to a wine that, as delicious as it is now, boasts a track record that means you can cellar it for as long as you have the patience to do so. An under-priced icon wine. Drink by 2035.

Wild blueberries, red cherries, licorice and tea leaves on the nose. Fresh and elegant with a medium body and fine-grained tannins. Very pretty. Blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and malbec. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Cabernet Sauvignon 61%, Cabernet Franc 10%, Merlot 10%, Petit Verdot 10% and Malbec 9%. There’s not a lot of wine made in 2020, so I’m always grateful when a producer is good enough to send wines in for review, even when they don’t need to.
It’s a classic Yarra Cabernet blend. Svelte, only just medium-bodied, distinctly red fruited, spicy cedar oak in support, a quiet perfume of flowers and blonde tobacco, a background whiff of bacon bone. It’s fresh and lithe, fine-grained tannin, spicy honey biscuit, and a cool red fruited finish of excellent length and fragrance. Lovely. All just so. Drink 2023 - 2035+
