2021 Clos Clare Watervale Riesling
Third generation winemakers Tom and Sam Barry of Jim Barry fame run the Clos Clare operation. This is their fourteenth vintage from Clos Clare's Riesling patch of 51 year old dry grown vines which adjoins the historic Jim Barry 'Florita' vineyard in Watervale.
Brilliant water like colour with a glimmer of green around the outskirts. Intense lemon and lime scents jump out of the glass trailed by orange rind, talc and chalky mineral notes. Racy lime, citrus and orange rind fruits carry a zesty feel and are underscored by subtle Granny Smith apple, wet steel and flinty mineral characters. Finishes dry and crunchy with a long tightly focused aftertaste that packs plenty of punch.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 12%
Other Reviews…..
Attractively soft fragrance here with jasmine and lime, as well as apple blossom and a white-peach edge. The palate holds a very intense and focused feel with slick, juicy acidity and rich, concentrated fruit flesh. So long. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

A good vintage for Clos Clare in 2021.
Pretty and pure. I’m thinking white flowers, lime and white peach. It’s fresh, a fine powdery texture, pure cool acidity, very long and even, with a lemon barley and lime aftertaste. Nice.

From 51yo dry-grown vines, hand picked and whole-bunch pressed. This is very smart. It is mineral, tightly coiled, powerful and sleek, all at once. The fruit is embedded in the acid; the acid likewise is wrapped in a sheath of talcy phenolics. Very fine ... I love the spool of flavour through the finish. Pristine. Stonking value for money. Drink by 2031.
