2021 Coates The Grenache - Last Stocks
Matured in seasoned French oak for 10 months. Deep dark red core with black shaded edges and a dark red hue. Elevated red to dark raspberry, ripe cherry and red liquorice scents show good power out of the glass followed by some fresh herb, light vanillin earth and spice notes. Mid weighted the palate features juicy raspberry and cherry fruits over a back drop of red liquorice, subtle infusions of fresh herbs, light earth and spicy vanillin cedar. Gorgeously refined and fleshy in texture with velvet smooth tannins, well integrated acidity and a long seductive red to dark fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%
Other Reviews….
This is just awesome. I usually taste and write at the same time, but here with this wine, I tasted it and then tasted it again. I didn't write a thing initially—I was more focused on just taking it in. This 2021 The Grenache, McLaren Vale is fine-tuned: shavings of deli meat, layers of star anise, raspberry pip, rhubarb, blood and iodine, graphite and red apples. It is a concentrated wine of both gravitas and joy, too. There is something that has really got me hanging in on the finish—dates or nutmeg spice... or something spicy. It's intriguing. A wine of poise and focus. Tannins are a highlight. Drink 2022-2027.
