2021 DCB Wine Chardonnay
Winemaker Chris Bendle’s day job is at Hoddles Creek Estate but he still finds time to work on his own venture, DCB wine, sourcing fruit from a vineyard in Gladysdale in the picturesque Upper Yarra. The 26 year old vines vines are planted on a east facing slope and maturation takes place in a mixture of barrique and demi muid barrels.
Brilliant pale straw colour with gleaming green tinged edges and a watery hue. Lifted white peach and nectarine scents intermix with hints of grapefruit, cashew, dried honey, faint nougat and spice. Mid weighted and refined with good complexity as well as an attractive freshness to the finish, the palate features generous nectarine, pear and dried honey flavours over a background of subtle cashew, citrus and delicate spicy nougat elements. Faintly creamed at present it will build further texture with bottle age. The enduring aftertaste showing a surprising level of sophistication.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
