2021 Domaine Garnier & Fils Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru

Based in Ligny-les-Chatel on the northern fringe of the Chablis appellation, Domaine Garnier & Fils has been family owned since 1789 with brothers Jerome and Xavier Garnier currently overseeing the winemaking and management. Jerome works the vineyards, while Xavier makes the wines, and together they are leading a group of newer producers finding their voice in the northern most part of Chablis. Organic farming is practiced in the vineyards, and fermentation occurs with natural yeasts before the wines are matured in a mix of very large barrels and stainless steel tanks.
Les Clos often produces one of the most powerful and concentrated examples of Grand Cru Chablis. Garnier age their wine 100% in 228 litre barrels varying from 3-6 years old for 12 months before bottling.
Bright straw colour with a touch of green to the edges and a watery hue. Intense pear, lime and green apple aromas have a distinct wet slate overlay with notions of oyster shell, fresh herbs and faint hints of honeyed almond also evident. Bristling with freshness, concentrated pear, lime and green apple fruits overlay a saline oyster shell like back drop that also see the appearance of delicate honeyed almond characters. Frisky acidity lends tension to the river stone like texture and long saline laced finish.
