2021 Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Alte Reben Riesling Grosses Gewachs
Other Reviews....
The 2021 Ürziger Würzgarten GG Alte Reben offers a clear, beautifully refined and flinty bouquet of ripe and elegant Riesling fruit spiced with stony splinters. Lush and refined on the palate, this is a very elegant, saline and textured Riesling with enormous salinity in the mouth-watering, rich and intense finish. Definitely the finest GG of the vintage here. 12.5% alcohol. Tasted as a sample at the domaine in July 2022. To be bottled in October. Drink 2023 - 2050.

From Permian rhyolite, the 2021 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Grosses Gewächs Alte Reben opens up into a nose making you believe that you can smell texture because this sports wonderful notes of russet pear peel. The palate adds lovely notions of pepper to a body that has a smooth but concentrated texture. There is such limpidity of flavor, such charm, such elegance. A super-bright version of lemon acidity highlights it all. Beautiful and echoing with exquisite length. (Dry). Drink 2025-2050.

The power and concentration of this wine are elegantly underplayed. Lots of wild berries and herbs, but also plenty of red-fleshed vineyard peach. What a wonderful balance! Long and silky finish that pulls you inexorably back for more. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.
