2021 Eden Hall Springton Shiraz
Eden Hall was established by David Hall, a well-respected spinal surgeon, and his wife Mardi when they purchased the Avon Brae property in 1996. They quickly set about re-establishing the vineyard and the first commercial release was in 2004. Today the property has over 80 acres under vine and talented Phil Lehmann is contracted as red wine maker.
Rich, lush and silky with a level of depth and power well beyond its price point.
Fruit was sourced from three Shiraz blocks on the Eden Hall estate with maturation taking place in French oak barrels (10% new) for a period of 12 months. Impenetrable pitch black heart with a very deep black dark red hue. Heady spicy dark plum and liquorice scents sail out of the glass interweaving with notions of smoked meats, fennel and blackpepper along the way. Rich, full and plush the palate is swamped with a concentrated mix of black cherry, liquorice and dark plum fruits. Opulent and silky with cashmere like tannins, fennel, smoky vanillin cedar and peppered dried herb characters lend complexity to the back half. Possessing a level of depth and power well beyond its price point it finishes long, seductive and lavishly textured.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
