2021 Elderton Barossa Merlot

Until 1992, Elderton had used its Estate grown Merlot solely as a blending tool with Cabernet. In 1992 the individual parcel of Merlot was so exceptional that the decision was made to make a straight Merlot. The 2021 vintage combines Elderton’s almost 20 year old vines with younger plantings which brings more vibrancy to the blend.
Aged in predominately older French oak puncheons for 14 months. Dense inky black in colour with a deep bright dark purple hue. Youthful freshly crushed blackcurrant and plum aromas intermingle with vanillin cedar, infusions of bay leaf and faint inky earth notes. Rich blackcurrant and dark plum fruits drive the palate carrying a plush feel throughout. Vanillin cedar, earth, tobacco and spicy dried herb characters ensue. Excellent intensity with velvet smooth tannins complimented by fresh energetic acidity. Concludes long, bright and polished.
