2021 Fat Bastard Shiraz

Best known for their Californian Chardonnay, the Fat Bastard range has recently expanded to include a Shiraz. Past vintages have just been so so but the 2021 vintage ratches up the quality to deliver a big ball of rich, succulent South Australian Shiraz fruit that matches the Chardonnay for value.
Dense inky black in colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Wafting out of the glass are heady scents of aniseed, black cherry and dark plum infused with toasty oak and blackpepper. Rich, full and opulently textured the palate is awash with liquorice, dark plum and black cherry fruits. Notions of vanillin oak, scorched earth and pepper lie underneath. Slightly inky finish with polished tannins. Ample depth and intensity with a long luscious black fruited conclusion. Easily the best Fat Bastard Shiraz yet.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
