2021 Il Carpino Vigna Runc Malvasia

Il Carpino sit on Friuli Venezia-Giulia’s winemaking ‘golden strip’ of Ponca-rich soil in Oslavia, right near the Slovenian border. Their Vigna Runc range uses fruit from younger vineyards, and the wines are made in a slightly more conventional way - skins for only a short time, with all ferments in temperature-controlled steel tanks, clarification and filtration before release. The wines are released relatively early and do not undergo malolactic fermentation, maintaining their crisp and flavoursome style.
Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Elevated lime and green apple skin scents infused with fresh Mediterranean herbs are followed by some cantaloupe and stony mineral notes. Ripe and well rounded across the palate yet possessing a zingy, vibrant feel, the palate features fleshy pear, lime, green apple skin and mango fruits over a wet slate and minerally saline laced back drop. Finishes dry with crisp acidity and a long aftertaste that exudes freshness, elegance and minerality.
